Dear Community,

I’m sorry for not publishing a Resistance Report in a while, things have been very busy with the Showdown Update.
Most of my time was spent designing and running the ARG leading up to the date announcement, and what a fun activity it was! I expected maybe 30-50 people to join and play along, but within about a day there were over 600 of you. Thank you to everyone who joined, guessed clues, discussed leaks, and came up with theories! I can’t wait to see your reactions to the Showdown when it comes out (I am writing this on the 11th, so I don’t know yet!)

Now that the update is out, though, I have different news for you. With Generation Zero ending active development, I am moving on from both the project and from Avalanche Studios. In fact, as this letter is being released, I have already had my last day and am probably at a sunny beach sipping coconut juice somewhere.
I know this is sudden and I apologize for not communicating about it earlier, but I didn’t want to talk to you about it before all the details had been hashed out.

Many of you know that before I was a Community Manager, I was a moderator on the GZ Discord server for many years. I’ve seen this game enter its Beta phase, get released, receive updates, grow, and now end. It means more to me than any other game, which is why I feel like now is the perfect time for me to move onto different horizons.

If you’re now wondering what’ll happen to the current GZ spaces, worry not! My amazing colleagues in the Community team will watch over you. While they might not be as active as I have been, they’re always watching, so please be on your best behavior. The official Discord server will remain as it is for now and if any changes are made down the line, they’ll let you know.

While I’m thankful for every single person I’ve had the privilege of interacting with during the last 6.34 years, I’d take some space here to thank several specific people.

  • My amazing Dev Team, who endured me poking them about that one specific bug a million times and actually fixed a ton of them,
  • My moderators, who had my back and helped me create an awesome Discord server,
  • The Beta Tester team, without whom we wouldn’t have caught a lot of bugs
  • Tenebris and Wired Gaming, for making Generation Zero videos with no expectation of payment, teaching thousands how to get into the game over the years.

As a note, especially to those who haven’t given GZ a review or who gave it a negative rating in the past: Please play the update and ask yourself again if you really wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. So much has happened over the years and I think the game really deserves a good review. If you’ve previously given it a thumbs up, please do not reconsider your decision.

Since I will soon be back home in Switzerland visiting my family for the holidays, it’s only fitting that I teach you all one last Swiss German phrase: “Uf wiederluege”. It means “until we see each other again”, which is what I’m saying to you now. I’m sure our paths will cross again!

Cheers,
Carni, Community Manager
